1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, Western Illinois University received its initial
3 charter in April of 1899 through legislation supported
4 strongly by Representative L. Y. Sherman and passed by the
5 General Assembly; and
6 WHEREAS, Western Illinois University has been a critical
7 link in the growth and development of Illinois and has made
8 important contributions to the entire State for the past 100
9 years; and
10 WHEREAS, The university has evolved from a two-year
11 teacher's college with a local enrollment to a comprehensive
12 university with an enrollment of more then 12,000 students
13 representing every region of Illinois and some 30 states and
14 50 nations, offering programs in Macomb, the Quad-Cities, and
15 throughout the nation via a satellite education network; and
16 WHEREAS, Over the years, the university has provided
17 thousands of students with the knowledge and skills necessary
18 to become part of the nation's workforce; and
19 WHEREAS, The university continues to provide premier
20 educational opportunities to its undergraduate and graduate
21 students in a host of academic disciplines and to uphold high
22 standards for its students; and
23 WHEREAS, Western Illinois University will this year
24 observe its Centennial Celebration, beginning with a
25 Centennial Convocation on April 24th, 1999; therefore, be it
26 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
27 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
28 we congratulate Western Illinois University for a century of
29 service to the people of the State of Illinois; and be it
30 further

1 RESOLVED, That this resolution will aid in providing a
2 well-deserved expression of gratitude and statement of
3 recognition for the accomplishments of the university and its
4 students during the past 100 years; and be it further
5 RESOLVED, That on this noteworthy occasion the House of
6 Representatives wishes continued success and achievement to
7 the faculty, staff, and students of Western Illinois
8 University; and be it further
9 RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
10 prepared and presented to officials of Western Illinois
11 University.
