1 HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION
2 CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT
3 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
4 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE
5 SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that there shall be submitted to
6 the electors of the State for adoption or rejection at the
7 general election next occurring at least 6 months after the
8 adoption of this resolution a proposition to add Section 9 to
9 Article XIII of the Illinois Constitution as follows:
10 ARTICLE XIII
11 GENERAL PROVISIONS
12 (ILCON Art. XIII, Sec. 9 new)
13 SECTION 9. INSURANCE COMMISSIONER
14 There is created the office of Insurance Commissioner.
15 The Insurance Commissioner shall regulate the insurance
16 industry in Illinois. The Insurance Commissioner shall have
17 such other powers and duties as provided by law.
18 The Insurance Commissioner shall be elected by the
19 electors of the State. The General Assembly shall provide by
20 law for the qualifications, term of office, and manner of
21 election of the Insurance Commissioner.
22 SCHEDULE
23 This Constitutional Amendment takes effect upon being
24 declared adopted in accordance with Section 7 of the Illinois
25 Constitutional Amendment Act.
