1 AN ACT to amend the Motor Fuel and Petroleum Standards
2 Act by adding Section 4.2.
3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
4 represented in the General Assembly:
5 Section 5. The Motor Fuel and Petroleum Standards Act is
6 amended by adding Section 4.2 as follows:
7 (815 ILCS 370/4.2 new)
8 Sec. 4.1. Motor fuel containing methyl tertiary butyl
9 ether; labeling.
10 (a) Upon any retail motor fuel dispensing device which is
11 used to dispense a motor fuel containing any amount of methyl
12 tertiary butyl ether (MTBE), there shall be displayed a label
13 stating that the motor fuel contains methyl tertiary butyl
14 ether. The labelling shall be done in contrasting colors
15 with block letters at least 1/2 inch in height and 1/4 inch
16 in width, and not more than one inch in height and 1/2 inch
17 in width, and shall be visible to customers.
18 (b) Each seller of a motor fuel which contains methyl
19 tertiary butyl ether shall notify the purchaser that the
20 motor fuel contains methyl tertiary butyl ether, and a
21 statement of that fact shall appear on the bill of lading,
22 manifest, or delivery ticket for the motor fuel. However,
23 this subsection (b) shall not apply to sales at retail.
