 1        AN ACT concerning judges, amending named Acts.

 2        Be  it  enacted  by  the People of the State of Illinois,
 3    represented in the General Assembly:

 4        Section 5.  The Circuit Courts Act is amended  by  adding
 5    Section 4.05 as follows:

 6        (705 ILCS 35/4.05 new)
 7        Sec.  4.05.  Circuit  of Cook County; chief judge. In the
 8    Circuit of Cook County, after  the  effective  date  of  this
 9    amendatory  Act of the 91st General Assembly, the chief judge
10    shall not be chosen by the circuit judges of the circuit  but
11    shall  instead be appointed by the Governor with the approval
12    of the Senate.  The chief judge shall be appointed for a term
13    of 4 years and may not serve for more than 2 terms.

14        Section 10.  The  Associate  Judges  Act  is  amended  by
15    adding Section 2.5 as follows:

16        (705 ILCS 45/2.5 new)
17        Sec. 2.5. Circuit of Cook County.
18        (a)  In  the  Circuit  of Cook County, an associate judge
19    may not serve as Supervisor Judge.
20        (b)  In the Circuit of Cook County,  an  associate  judge
21    may  not serve in the Chancery, Law, or Criminal divisions of
22    the court.
23        (c)  In the Circuit of Cook  County,  a  vacancy  in  the
24    office  of associate judge must be filled by appointment of a
25    person who resides in the subcircuit in which he or she  will
26    serve.
