1 AN ACT to amend the Children and Family Services Act by
2 changing Section 8.
3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
4 represented in the General Assembly:
5 Section 5. The Children and Family Services Act is
6 amended by changing Section 8 as follows:
7 (20 ILCS 505/8) (from Ch. 23, par. 5008)
8 Sec. 8. Scholarships and fee waivers. Each year the
9 Department may select from among the children under care, or
10 children formerly under care who have been adopted or are in
11 the subsidized guardianship program, a maximum of 500 48
12 students (at least 75 4 of whom shall be children of
13 veterans) who have completed 4 years in an accredited high
14 school; the children selected shall be eligible for
15 scholarships and fee waivers which will entitle them to 4
16 consecutive years of community college, university, or
17 college education. Selection shall be made on the basis of
18 scholastic record, aptitude, and general interest in higher
19 education. In accordance with this Act, tuition scholarships
20 and fee waivers shall be available to such students at any
21 university or college maintained by the State of Illinois.
22 The Department shall provide maintenance and school expenses,
23 except tuition and fees, during the academic years to
24 supplement the students' earnings or other resources so long
25 as they consistently maintain scholastic records which are
26 acceptable to their schools and to the Department. Students
27 may attend other colleges and universities, if scholarships
28 are awarded them, and receive the same benefits for
29 maintenance and other expenses as those students attending
30 any Illinois State community college, university, or college
31 under this Section.
