 1        AN ACT to amend  the  Hospital  District  Law  by  adding
 2    Section 26.

 3        Be  it  enacted  by  the People of the State of Illinois,
 4    represented in the General Assembly:

 5        Section 5.  The  Hospital  District  Law  is  amended  by
 6    adding Section 26 as follows:

 7        (70 ILCS 910/26 new)
 8        Sec. 26.  Dissolution of district; distribution of moneys
 9    in  district  treasury.   If a hospital district is dissolved
10    under Section 25 and it has moneys in its treasury, prior  to
11    the  time  business  and  affairs  of  the district have been
12    closed up, the board of directors may propose an ordinance to
13    distribute the moneys to a  not-for-profit  organization  for
14    the  purpose  of  providing  medical  school  scholarships to
15    residents of the territory that was included in the  district
16    at  the  time  the  district  was dissolved.  If the board of
17    directors proposes the ordinance,  the  board  shall  hold  a
18    public hearing on the ordinance.  Notice of the hearing shall
19    be  given  by  publication,  not less than 10 days before the
20    hearing, in a newspaper of  general  circulation  within  the
21    district.   After holding the hearing, the board of directors
22    may  adopt  an  ordinance  directing  that  the   moneys   be
23    transferred to the not-for-profit organization.
