91_HB0835enr HB0835 Enrolled LRB9102212DHpk 1 AN ACT to amend the Illinois Municipal Code by changing 2 Section 3.1-40-50. 3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, 4 represented in the General Assembly: 5 Section 5. The Illinois Municipal Code is amended by 6 changing Section 3.1-40-50 as follows: 7 (65 ILCS 5/3.1-40-50) (from Ch. 24, par. 3.1-40-50) 8 Sec. 3.1-40-50. Reconsideration; passing over veto. 9 Every resolution and motion specified in Section 3.1-40-45, 10 and every ordinance, that is returned to the city council by 11 the mayor shall be reconsidered by the city council at the 12 next regular meeting following the regular meeting at which 13 the city council receives the mayor's written objection. If, 14 after reconsideration, two-thirds of all the aldermen then 15 holding office on the city council agree at that regular 16 meeting to pass an ordinance, resolution, or motion, 17 notwithstanding the mayor's refusal to approve it, then it 18 shall be effective. The vote on the question of passage over 19 the mayor's veto shall be by yeas and nays and shall be 20 recorded in the journal. 21 This Section does not apply to municipalities with more 22 than 500,000 inhabitants. 23 (Source: P.A. 87-1119.)
