 1        AN  ACT  to amend the Code of Civil Procedure by changing
 2    Section 1-106.

 3        Be it enacted by the People of  the  State  of  Illinois,
 4    represented in the General Assembly:

 5        Section  5.   The  Code  of Civil Procedure is amended by
 6    changing Section 1-106 as follows:

 7        (735 ILCS 5/1-106) (from Ch. 110, par. 1-106)
 8        Sec. 1-106. Act to be liberally construed. This Act shall
 9    be liberally construed, to the end that controversies may  be
10    speedily  and finally determined according to the substantive
11    rights of the parties. The rule that statutes  in  derogation
12    of  the  common law must be strictly construed does not apply
13    to this Act or to the rules made  in  relation  to  this  Act
14    thereto.
