Short description: 
CNTY CD-CNTY OFFICIALS STIPEND                                             

Synopsis of Bill as introduced:
        Amends the Counties Code.  Provides that  in  addition  to  their      
   salaries, sheriffs shall receive an annual stipend of $6,500 for their      
   additional  duties  imposed  by  other  statutes or laws.  Deletes the      
   provisions concerning an annual stipend for  sheriffs  who  operate  a      
   county jail.  Effective December 1, 1998.                                   
        HOUSE AMENDMENT NO. 1.                                                 
          Adds reference to:                                                   
          55 ILCS 5/3-10007               from Ch. 34, par. 3-10007            
          55 ILCS 5/4-6001                from Ch. 34, par. 4-6001             
        Further amends the Counties Code.  Provides that the county clerk      
   of each county, the recorder of each county, and the  chief  clerk  of      
   each  county  board of election commissioners (now the county clerk of      
   each  county  that  does  not  have  a  county   board   of   election      
   commissioners  and  the  chief  clerk of each county board of election      
   commissioners) shall receive an award of $4,500 per year after January      
   1, 1998, $5,500 per year after January 1, 1999, and  $6,500  per  year      
   after  January  1,  2000  (now  of $3,500 per annum for the additional      
   duties required of such officers by  the  consolidation  of  elections      
   law).   Provides  that  the  county  treasurer shall receive an annual      
   stipend of (i) $5,000 if the treasurer's term begins  before  December      
   1,  1998, (ii) $5,500 after December 1, 1998 and $6,500 after December      
   1, 1999, if the treasurer's term begins on or after December  1,  1998      
   but  before December 1, 2000, and (iii) $6,500 if the treasurer's term      
   begins on December 1, 2000 or thereafter (now every treasurer receives      
   an annual stipend of $5,000).
