   New Act                                                                     
   105 ILCS 5/Act rep.                                                         

        Repeals the School Code effective July 1, 2001 and creates the         
   School Review Committee Law. Provides for the immediate creation of a       
   15 member School Code Review Committee to review and evaluate all pro-      
   visions of the School Code and requires it to report to the Governor        
   and General Assembly, on or before the second Wednesday of January of       
   2000 and 2001, with its recommendations for legislation that will more      
   effectively attain the State's objective of establishing an efficient       
   system of high quality public educational institutions and services at      
   the elementary and secondary levels. Provides for the chairperson of        
   the Committee to be appointed by the Governor with the advice and con-      
   sent of the Senate, for 4 members to be appointed (one each) by the         
   legislative  leaders, and for 10 members to be appointed by specified       
   business and educational entities. Adds provisions relative to member       
   terms and Committee and member expenses, and provides for the State         
   Board of Education to provide such staff assistance as the Committee        
   may reasonably request. Provides that the Committee is dissolved upon       
   the filing of its final report in January, 2001. Effective immediate-       
   ly, except the repeal of the School Code takes effective July 1, 2001.
