WOOLARD-FANTIN-CURRY,JULIE-COULSON.

   105 ILCS 110/3            from Ch. 122, par. 863                            

        Amends the Critical  Health  Problems  and  Comprehensive  Health      
   Education  Act.    Urges school boards to encourage their teachers and      
   other school personnel who coach school athletic  programs  and  other      
   extracurricular  school  activities  to acquire, develop, and maintain      
   the knowledge  and  skills  necessary  to  administer  first  aid  and      
   cardiopulmonary   resuscitation   in  accordance  with  standards  and      
   requirements established by the American Red Cross or other  qualified      
   certifying   agencies  approved  by  the  State  Board  of  Education.      
   Effective immediately.                                                      
        HOUSE AMENDMENT NO. 1.                                                 
        Deletes provisions requiring a qualified certifying agency to  be      
   approved by the State Board of Education.  Adds provisions encouraging      
   each  school  board  to employ or have on its volunteer staff at least      
   one person who is certified, by the  American  Red  Cross  or  another      
   qualified  certifying agency, as qualified to administer first aid and      
   cardiopulmonary resuscitation.  Authorizes  school  districts  to  use      
   institute  or inservice days to conduct training programs for teachers      
   and other school personnel who are interested in becoming qualified to      
   administer emergency first aid or cardiopulmonary resuscitation.            
          FISCAL NOTE, H-am 1 (State Bd. of Ed.)                               
          HB 1272, as amended, is permissive in nature and will impost no      
          new costs upon local school districts.
