35 ILCS 200/15-143 new
Amends the Property Tax Code. Provides that property
owned by metropolitan water reclamation districts in counties
with a population greater than 3,000,000 is exempt for
purposes of taxing leased property. Provides that a tax may
be levied upon a lessee of the district's property or upon
any improvements constructed and owned by individuals or
entities different from the district.

1 AN ACT amending the Property Tax Code by adding Section
2 15-143.
3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
4 represented in the General Assembly:
5 Section 5. The Property Tax Code is amended by adding
6 Section 15-143 as follows:
7 (35 ILCS 200/15-143 new)
8 Sec. 15-143. Metropolitan Water Reclamation Districts in
9 counties with a population greater than 3,000,000. All
10 property owned by metropolitan water reclamation districts in
11 counties with a population greater than 3,000,000 is exempt.
12 Any such property leased to an entity that is not exempt
13 shall remain exempt, and the leasehold interest of the lessee
14 shall be assessed under Section 9-195 of this Code.
