1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, J. Dennis Hastert was born January 2, 1942, in
3 Aurora, Illinois; and
4 WHEREAS, J. Dennis Hastert married Jean Kahl and has two
5 sons, Joshua and Ethan; and
6 WHEREAS, Mr. Hastert received his Bachelor's Degree in
7 business and economics from Wheaton College and earned his
8 Master's Degree in philosophy from Northern Illinois
9 University; and
10 WHEREAS, Mr. Hastert taught government and history for 16
11 years at Yorkville High School in Yorkville, Illinois; and
12 WHEREAS, State Representative Hastert was elected to
13 represent the 82nd Representative district from 1981 to 1986
14 and served on the following House committees: Revenue,
15 Financial Institutions, Public Utilities, Small Business, and
16 as Spokesperson of Appropriations II; and
17 WHEREAS, State Representative Hastert served as
18 Spokesperson for the Republican Caucus during the 83rd
19 General Assembly; and
20 WHEREAS, Congressman Hastert was first elected to the
21 U.S. House of Representatives in 1986 and rose to the rank of
22 Chief Deputy Majority Whip by 1995; and
23 WHEREAS, Congressman Hastert's leadership is respected
24 and admired by his colleagues on both sides of the aisle; and
25 WHEREAS, Congressman Hastert was the only House
26 Republican member to serve on Hillary Clinton's Health Care
27 Task Force in 1993; and
28 WHEREAS, Congressman Hastert was recently elected Speaker
29 of the U.S. House of Representatives; therefore, be it

1 RESOLVED, BY THE ILLINOIS HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
2 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY, that the 90th Illinois General
3 Assembly wishes to congratulate Illinois' finest statesman as
4 J. Dennis Hastert takes the helm as Speaker of the U.S. House
5 of Representatives of the 106th Congress of the United States
6 of America; and be it further
7 RESOLVED, that a suitable copy of this resolution be
8 given to Speaker Hastert and his family in Yorkville,
9 Illinois.
