1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to congratulate Dr. Bennie R. Upchurch,
4 of Centralia, Illinois, on being selected to attend the World
5 Congress of Gastroenterology in Vienna, Austria, in September
6 of 1998; and
7 WHEREAS, Dr. Upchurch was born and raised in Centralia,
8 Illinois; he was an active member of the Second Baptist
9 Church and their Sunday School Department until he departed
10 for college; Dr. Upchurch was an academic scholar in the
11 Centralia School System, he played football and was a member
12 of the wrestling team, and played in the school band; he
13 graduated in 1984 with high honors, and went on to attend
14 Kaskaskia Junior College, where he graduated with high
15 honors, including the Minority Student Award for
16 Distinguished Academic Performance, in 1986; and
17 WHEREAS, From 1986 to 1989 Mr. Upchurch attended Southern
18 Illinois University in Carbondale and graduated Cum Laude;
19 from 1989 to 1993 he attended the University of Iowa College
20 of Medicine in Iowa City, Iowa, where he graduated with high
21 honors; from 1993 to 1996 he worked on his internal medicine
22 residency at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, completing his
23 work in June of 1996; Dr. Upchurch is currently pursuing a
24 Gastroenterology Fellowship at Ohio State University in
25 Columbus, Ohio; and
26 WHEREAS, During the 1998-1999 academic year, Dr. Upchurch
27 will serve as the Chief Clinical Fellow at Ohio State
28 University and complete his Fellowship in June of 1999; and
29 WHEREAS, Dr. Upchurch is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bennie
30 Upchurch of Centralia, Illinois; therefore, be it
31 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE

1 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
2 congratulate Dr. Bennie R. Upchurch on his hard work and
3 dedication to his craft; we wish him the best as he travels
4 to Vienna, Austria to attend the World Congress of
5 Gastroenterology; and be it further
6 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7 presented to Dr. Bennie R. Upchurch.
