1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to congratulate Barbara M. Wheeler on
4 being named President of the National School Boards
5 Association; and
6 WHEREAS, Barbara Wheeler earned her undergraduate degree
7 in Non-Western History from Saint Dominic College in 1969;
8 she received her Teaching Certificate from Elmhurst College
9 in 1972; she joined the Community High School District 99
10 Board of Education in Downers Grove, serving as President
11 from 1976 to 1987, and then again from 1994 to 1995; Ms.
12 Wheeler graduated from the DePaul University College of Law
13 in 1980, and went on to serve as an Assistant State's
14 Attorney in Cook County from 1980 to 1982, before going into
15 private practice; and
16 WHEREAS, Ms. Wheeler continued to serve the community in
17 addition to her practice of law; she has been an active
18 member of the Illinois Association of School Boards, serving
19 as President from 1987 to 1989 and Vice President from 1985
20 to 1987; Ms. Wheeler has been a speaker at many conventions
21 around the country, speaking on educational matter; she has
22 advised and consulted the Chicago Board of Education,
23 fifty-seven school districts across Illinois, the New York
24 School Boards Association, and the Institute for Educational
25 Leadership; and
26 WHEREAS, Ms. Wheeler has received awards from the
27 Illinois State Board of Education, the Illinois Association
28 of School Administrators, and the Illinois Association of
29 School Boards; Ms. Wheeler is a volunteer with the Illinois
30 Department on Aging, George Williams College, the Downers
31 Grove Chamber of Commerce, and the Downers Grove YMCA; she is
32 a member of the Chicago Bar Association, the Illinois Bar

1 Association, and the American Bar Association; and
2 WHEREAS, Barbara Wheeler brings expertise and dedication
3 to her new position as President of the National School
4 Boards Association; therefore, be it
5 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
6 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
7 congratulate Ms. Barbara M. Wheeler on being named President
8 of the National School Boards Association; through her many
9 achievements, her hard work, and her efforts to work with
10 educators within the State of Illinois, she has proven
11 herself capable of doing a great job in this position; and be
12 it further
13 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14 presented to Barbara M. Wheeler.
