 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION
 2        WHEREAS, The members of this Body are saddened  to  learn
 3    of  the  death  of  Alfred  Rubin  of  Naperville on Tuesday,
 4    December 16, 1997; and
 5        WHEREAS, He was born on December 10, 1920 in  Naperville,
 6    the son of Samuel and Anna Pomerantz Rubin; he graduated from
 7    the University of Illinois and was active in the ROTC; and
 8        WHEREAS,  He  served in the United States Army and during
 9    the war he was promoted to captain and  received  the  Silver
10    Cross,  a  Purple  Heart  with two oak leaf clusters, and the
11    Bronze Arrowhead; he  was  recently  honored  by  the  French
12    government for his role in the invasion of Normandy; and
13        WHEREAS, Mr. Rubin served his community on several boards
14    dating  back  to  the dedication of Centennial Beach in 1931;
15    these include the Naperville Elementary School  District  78,
16    the  Hospital  Board,  the  Naperville  City Council, Bank of
17    Naperville,  Harris  Bank  of  Naperville,   the   Naperville
18    Riverwalk Commission, and the Naperville Park District Board;
19    and
20        WHEREAS,  He  was a founder of the Naperville United Way;
21    he was honored last year by the Naperville Park District with
22    the renaming of the Riverwalk Community Center to the  Alfred
23    Rubin Riverwalk Community Center; and
24        WHEREAS,  He  was a member of the Central Area Naperville
25    Development  Organization,  the  Naperville  VFW  Post  3873,
26    American Legion Post 43, Euclid Lodge AF&AM 65,  Moose  Lodge
27    1290, and Naperville Rotary; and
28        WHEREAS,  His  passing  will be deeply felt by his family
29    and his friends, especially his wife, Naomi; his son, Steven;
30    his  daughters,  Jennifer  and  Lydia;  his  daughter-in-law,
31    Sheri; his grandchildren, Rachael  and  Emily;  one  brother,

 1    Norman; and two sisters, Gish Levy and Lucille Cooper Gutman;
 2    therefore, be it
 3        RESOLVED,   BY   THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES  OF  THE
 4    NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that  we
 5    extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends; and
 6    be it further
 7        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
 8    presented to his widow, Naomi Rubin.
