1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to congratulate Eugene and Winifred Gehr
4 on the occasion of their fiftieth wedding anniversary,
5 February 7, 1998; and
6 WHEREAS, Eugene Alfred Gehr and Winifred Louise Christian
7 met for the first time at the Belding Playlot when they were
8 twelve years old; as teenagers they attended Carl Schurz High
9 School in Chicago, Illinois, where Eugene was voted the most
10 popular student in the graduating class; upon his honorable
11 discharge from the United States Navy, Eugene and Winifred
12 were reunited on the same playlot where they first met; they
13 met later at the Foxhole and began dating in the summer of
14 1946; by the summer of 1947 Eugene and Winifred were engaged
15 to be married, and on Saturday, February 7, 1948, at St.
16 Edwards Rectory, they were pronounced husband and wife; at
17 the Bohemian Hall, located at 4622 N. Pulaski, a reception
18 was held with family and friends in attendance; and
19 WHEREAS, Eugene began his newly married life working for
20 a watch repair company, and then moved on to Continental Can,
21 where he worked first as a color proofer before his promotion
22 to an executive position in management; upon his retirement
23 in 1985, Eugene accepted a position with the Inmont
24 Corporation, a subdivision of BASF, where he retired in 1989;
25 and
26 WHEREAS, Winifred also worked, in addition to raising
27 seven children, as the Head of the Payroll Department at GM
28 Laboratories; and
29 WHEREAS, Eugene and Winifred Gehr will celebrate their
30 anniversary with their large family, including: their son,
31 Douglas Eugene Gehr and his wife, Giovanna (Joany), and their
32 children, Jennifer and Joseph; their son, Thomas Scott Gehr

1 and his wife, Betty; their son, Gary Arvid Gehr and his wife,
2 Theresa, and their children, Justin and Kelly Ann; their
3 daughter, Elizabeth Ellyn Howe and her husband, Kenneth, and
4 their children, Ashley and Megan; their son, Robert James
5 Gehr and his wife, Holly Mae, and their children, Michael,
6 Rachel, and Danielle; their son, John Glenn Gehr and his
7 wife, Glennda Jean (Bunny), and their children, Alexander,
8 John, and Mick; and their son, Andrew Joseph Gehr; therefore,
9 be it
10 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
11 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
12 congratulate Eugene and Winifred Gehr on fifty years of
13 wedded bliss; may they continue to enjoy their lives
14 together; and be it further
15 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16 presented to Eugene and Winifred Gehr.
