1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, U.S. Route 51 was established in 1923 and was
3 constructed over the preexisting portion of the roadway
4 called Egyptian Trail in southern Illinois; and
5 WHEREAS, a new U.S. Route 51, from Carbondale to Cairo,
6 is being completed, which will abandon portions of old U.S.
7 Route 51; therefore, be it
8 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
9 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
10 those portions of the last alignment of old U.S. Route 51 in
11 southern Illinois, from Anna to Carbondale and any other
12 places deemed appropriate, that have been abandoned by new
13 U.S. Route 51 be named Egyptian Trail; and be it further
14 RESOLVED, That we respectfully request the Illinois
15 Department of Transportation to erect, at suitable locations
16 consistent with State and federal regulations, appropriate
17 signs, markers, or plaques giving notice of the name; and be
18 it further
19 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20 presented to the Secretary of Transportation for the State of
21 Illinois.
