1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The city of Centralia, Illinois, honors many of
3 its citizens with induction into the Hall of Fame; and
4 WHEREAS, One such inductee is the late William Stephens
5 of Centralia, Illinois; William Stephens was born in
6 Danville, Illinois, the son of R. Allan and Helen Bennett
7 Stephens; after moving to Centralia, he married Theresa Boyd
8 in 1941; and
9 WHEREAS, In 1938 William Stephens was admitted to the
10 bar; he held the position of secretary of the Home Building
11 and Loan, he was a member of the Illinois State Savings and
12 Loan League, State Library Advisory Board, Centralia Library
13 Board, and the Executive Board of the Kaskaskia Council of
14 Boy Scouts; William Stephens was a former city attorney and a
15 member of both the State and Marion County Bar Associations;
16 and
17 WHEREAS, William Stephens was a member of the Optimist
18 Club, the Methodist Church, and served as president of the
19 Cumberland Trails Library Systems; together he and his wife
20 had two children, their son Page and daughter Miss Helen;
21 therefore, be it
22 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
23 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
24 salute William Stephens on his induction into the Centralia
25 Hall of Fame; and be it further
26 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
27 presented to the family of William Stephens.
