1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The Village of Harwood Heights, Illinois will
3 soon celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of incorporation; and
4 WHEREAS, The original area incorporated only consisted of
5 four square blocks; in 1958 additional areas were annexed to
6 the blocks making Harwood Heights complete; new sidewalks,
7 new street signs, water and sewer lines, and the paving of
8 streets improved the Village in 1961; and
9 WHEREAS, In 1973 Mayor Ray Willas was elected to serve
10 the Village; he still holds this office; Harwood Heights is
11 known as an island in the city, with it being surrounded by
12 the City of Chicago; the Village has a prosperous business
13 district, provides a low tax rate for its citizens, and
14 provides many programs for it people; there are programs such
15 as I Live Alone, Neighborhood Watch, Officer Friendly, DARE,
16 and many sports programs that can be enjoyed by both young
17 and old; and
18 WHEREAS, The Village motto is "Serving People with
19 Pride"; the Village of Harwood Heights has proudly lived up
20 to this motto since 1947; therefore, be it
21 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
22 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
23 salute the Village of Harwood Heights, Illinois as they
24 celebrate their fiftieth anniversary of incorporation on
25 August 30 and 31, 1997; and be it further
26 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
27 presented to Mayor Ray Willas of Harwood Heights, Illinois.
