1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The Raccoon School in Centralia, Illinois will
3 celebrate it's fiftieth birthday on August 9, 1997; and
4 WHEREAS, The Raccoon School was formed in 1946, after the
5 local and area one-room school houses were consolidated; the
6 first superintendent of the Raccoon School, Raymond
7 Richardson of Centralia, traveled around the area to the
8 one-room schools to teach and conduct daily business; in 1950
9 the Raccoon School building was completed, and students could
10 then meet as one unit; and
11 WHEREAS, The committee in charge of the anniversary
12 celebration plan to honor those who had a hand in the
13 development of the Raccoon School; for 5 decades many people
14 have been instrumental in keeping the school going, and these
15 people will be acknowledged at the anniversary celebration;
16 and
17 WHEREAS, The celebration will begin with an open house,
18 followed by a program and dinner; each graduating class will
19 be forwarded to a classroom where they can meet and greet
20 former classmates; therefore, be it
21 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
22 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
23 salute the Raccoon School in Centralia, Illinois on reaching
24 the golden anniversary mark; and be it further
25 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
26 presented to the Raccoon School with our sincere hope for
27 fifty more years of serving the needs of the children of the
28 Centralia area.
