      Practices  Act.   Makes  a  stylistic  change  in  provisions
      concerning the powers of the Attorney General.

 1        AN ACT to amend the Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business
 2    Practices Act by changing Section 3.
 3        Be  it  enacted  by  the People of the State of Illinois,
 4    represented in the General Assembly:
 5        Section 5.  The Consumer  Fraud  and  Deceptive  Business
 6    Practices Act is amended by changing Section 3 as follows:
 7        (815 ILCS 505/3) (from Ch. 121 1/2, par. 263)
 8        Sec. 3.
 9        When it appears to the Attorney General that a person has
10    engaged  in,  is  engaging  in,  or is about to engage in any
11    practice declared  to  be  unlawful  by  this  Act;  when  he
12    receives  a  written complaint from a consumer or borrower of
13    the commission of a practice declared to  be  unlawful  under
14    this Act; or when he believes it to be in the public interest
15    that  an  investigation should be made to ascertain whether a
16    person in fact has engaged in, is engaging in or is about  to
17    engage  in, any practice declared to be unlawful by this Act,
18    he may:
19        (a)  Require that person to file  on  such  terms  as  he
20    prescribes  a  statement  or  report in writing under oath or
21    otherwise,  as  to  all  information  as  he   may   consider
22    necessary;
23        (b)  Examine under oath any person in connection with the
24    conduct of any trade or commerce;
25        (c)  Examine  any  merchandise  or  sample of merchandise
26    thereof, record, book, document, account or paper as  he  may
27    consider necessary; and
28        (d)  Pursuant  to an order of a Circuit Court impound any
29    record,  book,  document,  account,  paper,  or   sample   of
30    merchandise that is produced in accordance with this Act, and
31    retain  it  in  his  possession  until  the completion of all

 1    proceedings in connection with which it is produced.
