625 ILCS 5/11-1429 new
Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code to provide that a
vehicle may not be driven in any express lane on the Kennedy
Expressway from 7 o'clock a.m. to 9 o'clock a.m. and from 3
o'clock p.m. to 6 o'clock p.m. unless at least 2 people are
in the vehicle. Requires the Department of Natural Resources
to conduct a study of the effectiveness of this provision on
car pooling. Repeals these provisions one year after the
effective date of this amendatory Act of 1997. Effective
immediately.

1 AN ACT to amend the Illinois Vehicle Code by adding
2 Section 11-1429.
3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
4 represented in the General Assembly:
5 Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by
6 adding Section 11-1429 as follows:
7 (625 ILCS 5/11-1429 new)
8 Sec. 11-1429. Kennedy Expressway; use of lanes; study.
9 (a) A vehicle may not be driven in any express lane on
10 the Kennedy Expressway from 7 o'clock a.m. to 9 o'clock a.m.
11 and from 3 o'clock p.m. to 6 o'clock p.m. unless at least 2
12 people are in the vehicle.
13 (b) The Department of Natural Resources shall conduct a
14 study of the effectiveness of this Section in encouraging car
15 pooling. The Department of Natural Resources shall report
16 the results of this study to the General Assembly no later
17 than one year after the effective date of this amendatory Act
18 of 1997.
19 (c) This Section is repealed one year after the
20 effective date of this amendatory Act of 1997.
21 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
22 becoming law.
