HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, Numerous problems were observed in the process of
3 counting ballots cast in the March 21, 2006, election to
4 nominate many Cook County-based candidates, including, but not
5 limited to, the candidate of the Democratic Party for the
6 office of Cook County Board President; and
 
7     WHEREAS, As one result of these problems, many ballot
8 counts were delayed long after the close of the polls on March
9 21, 2006; and
 
10     WHEREAS, The people of Cook County are entitled to have
11 their ballots counted in a timely and accurate manner;
12 therefore, be it
 
13     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
14 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
15 the House Elections & Campaign Reform Committee is directed to
16 hold four hearings on the primary election and ballot count
17 conducted in Cook County on March 21, 2006, and following days;
18 and be it further
 
19     RESOLVED, That the first of these four hearings shall be
20 held in Springfield prior to the adjournment of the House from
21 its 2006 spring session; and be it further
 
22     RESOLVED, That the second, third, and fourth hearings shall
23 be held in Cook County prior to August 1, 2006; and be it
24 further
 
25     RESOLVED, That the House Elections & Campaign Reform
26 Committee shall submit a report of its findings to the Speaker
27 of the House and the House Minority Leader on or before
28 September 1, 2006; and be it further

1     RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
2 presented to the Speaker of the House, the House Minority
3 Leader, the Chairperson of the House Elections & Campaign
4 Reform Committee, and the Minority Spokesperson of the House
5 Elections & Campaign Reform Committee.
