HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Edward
4John "Ed" Buss of McHenry, who passed away on February 23,
52023; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Ed Buss was born in McHenry to Edward Sr. and Ella
7(Newman) Buss on April 17, 1929; he excelled in academics and
8athletics in his youth; he married Joan Theresa in May 1950;
9and
 
10    WHEREAS, Ed Buss took over the business founded by his
11father, Buss Ford, at the age of 18 and became a successful
12businessman; although he rarely sold a car himself at the
13dealership, he would take care of problems and give people a
14ride home when their cars were being serviced; his sons joined
15the business in the 1970s, and one of his grandsons now runs
16it; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Ed Buss started his political life in April 1963,
18when he was just 33 years old and ran as an independent for the
19McHenry County Board; he served on the board for 25 years and
20was instrumental in the building of the Charles Miller Road
21and bridge; and

1    WHEREAS, Ed Buss was a civic-minded individual; he coached
2youth baseball, basketball, and football; a lifetime supporter
3and member of the board for 12 years, he was honored with an
4induction into the hall of fame of the McHenry Little League
5Association; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Ed Buss's fondest memories were spent at the
7McHenry Country Club, where he won 13 club championships and
813 senior club championships and boasted a best round of 62; he
9was on the country club board of directors for 12 years and
10served as president for four years; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Ed Buss and Joan were members of St Mary's Church
12in McHenry for their entire married life; in retirement, he
13enjoyed playing the stock market and wintering in their
14beautiful home in Surprise, Arizona; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Ed Buss was preceded in death by his wife of 72
16years, Joan; his parents; his grandson, Ryan; his sister,
17Betty; and his brother, Bernie; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Ed Buss is survived by his children, Judie (Leo)
19Dobner, Bonnie Bjorkman, Patricia (Sig) Schatz, Stephen
20(Diane) Buss, and Robert (Ann) Buss, and numerous
21grandchildren and great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
2HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
3we mourn the passing of Edward John "Ed" Buss and extend our
4sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
5and loved him; and be it further
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7presented to the family of Ed Buss as an expression of our
8deepest sympathy.
