SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Dorothy Mae Johnson of Springfield, who passed away on February 23, 2023; and

WHEREAS, Dorothy Johnson was born to Callie Mae (Smith) Williams and Roosevelt "Bubba" Williams Sr. in Macon, Mississippi on January 21, 1950; she married James E. Johnson Sr. on March 21, 1970, and they moved to Springfield in the early 1970s; she graduated from Lincoln Land Community College through the Nursing Certification Program; and

WHEREAS, Dorothy Johnson worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN); and

WHEREAS, Dorothy Johnson was a lifelong member of Union Baptist Church, and she served on the Nursing Guild Auxiliary and the Usher Ministry; and

WHEREAS, Dorothy Johnson was a person of strong faith from a young age; her favorite pastimes were gardening and caring for her dogs; and

WHEREAS, Dorothy Johnson will be remembered as a loving and devoted mother; and

WHEREAS, Dorothy Johnson was preceded in death by her husband; her father; her brother, Roy Lee Williams; and her granddaughter, Jade Cheri Johnson; and

WHEREAS, Dorothy Johnson is survived by her mother; her daughter, Delores (James Jr.) Jones; her sons, James Earl Johnson Jr. and Jerry Lee (Jennifer R.) Johnson; her grandchildren, James Earl Johnson III, Jerverous L. Johnson, Jami R. Jones, and James R. Jones III; her great-granddaughter, Novi'Aire Ivy'Rose Johnson; her siblings, Roosevelt (Michelle) Williams Jr., Abraham Williams, Bernice (Rev. Steven) Richie, Robert (Barbara) Williams, L.C. (Brenda) Jones, Carleen Glass, and Colleen Glass; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Dorothy Mae Johnson and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dorothy Johnson as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
