SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the deaths of Thomas Francis "Tom" Connelly,
4Ph.D., who passed away on December 3, 2020, and Ann Louise
5(Duffy) Connelly, who passed away on November 7, 2020; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Tom and Ann Connelly were married for 61 years;
7and
 
8    WHEREAS, Tom Connelly was born on the West Side of Chicago
9to John and Ann (Rafter) Connelly; he was a long-time resident
10of La Grange; he earned his bachelor's degree in Classical
11Studies from Loyola University Chicago; he served in the U.S.
12Navy in the Navy Submarine Force and was based in Hawaii; he
13obtained his master's degree in Classics from the University
14of Kentucky; he earned his Doctor of Philosophy in Education
15Administration from Loyola University Chicago; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Tom Connelly worked for Chicago Public Schools
17(CPS) his entire career; he began teaching Latin at South
18Shore High School, where he served as the faculty advisor of
19the award-winning Shoreline newspaper; after passing the
20principal's exam, he worked in the CPS administration for the
21remainder of his career; and

1    WHEREAS, Tom Connelly was passionate about tutoring
2students in Latin, from his own grandchildren and friends to
3the undergraduate students at Ave Maria University in Naples,
4Florida; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Ann Connelly was born on the West Side of
6Chicago; she was a long-time resident of La Grange; she
7graduated from St. Xaxier University; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Ann Connelly was a registered nurse and worked as
9a school nurse for Chicago Public Schools; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Ann Connelly especially enjoyed playing bridge
11with her college friends from St. Xavier University; she
12worked tirelessly for her family and at one point had 5
13children under the age of 4, with the oldest being 3 1/2 years
14old; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Together, Tom and Ann Connelly enjoyed traveling
16the world with each other and their many friends; they loved
17doting on their grandchildren and great-grandchildren; they
18were deeply committed to their faith, and that faith was
19central to their love for one another; they will be missed; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Tom and Ann Connelly were preceded in death by
21Tom's brother, Jack; his twin brother, Francis Thomas; his

1sisters, Catherine and Winifred; Ann's brothers, James and
2David; and her sister, Mary Spradlin; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Tom and Ann Connelly were the parents of Mary
4(late Jerome) O'Rourke, Thomas (Amanda), Mark (Mary), Maureen
5(Martin) O'Connor, Michael (Lisa), Timothy (Noreen), and Ann
6Marie (John) Kavanagh; the grandparents of 23 grandchildren;
7the great-grandparents of three great-grandchildren; the
8brother and sister-in-law of Edward; and the loving caretakers
9of their 4-legged companion, Jesse James; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12Thomas Francis "Tom" Connelly, Ph.D. and Ann Louise (Duffy)
13Connelly and extend our sincere condolences to their family,
14friends, and all who knew and loved them; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Tom and Ann Connelly as an
17expression of our deepest sympathy.
