HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Officer Douglas Rashkow
4on the occasion of his retirement from the Aurora Police
5Department; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Officer Rashkow attended Highland High School,
7Purdue University, and the University of Illinois; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Officer Rashkow has served the Aurora Police
9Department for nearly 30 years, beginning in May 1992; and
 
10    WHEREAS, During that time, Officer Rashkow worked in the
11Community-Oriented Policing Unit in Aurora, coordinating
12efforts with various groups to build a strong relationship
13between youth and the Aurora Police Department; he also served
14on the department's Domestic Violence Reduction Unit for five
15years, where he advocated for victims and promoted programs
16that educate students about domestic violence; and
 
17    WHEREAS, In the last 12 years, Officer Rashkow focused on
18true community policing by working with those in crisis or
19with mental illness, developmental or intellectual
20disabilities, and dementia; and

1    WHEREAS, Officer Rashkow also served as a coordinator and
2crisis negotiator for the Crisis Intervention Team with the
3goal of creating a cohesive mental health community with area
4hospitals, service providers, and government officials by
5providing timely wrap-around services and reducing the
6negative stigma associated with such issues; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Officer Rashkow was recognized for his diligence
8in community service, advocacy for domestic violence victims,
9and continual work with seniors within his community with the
10Law Enforcement Award by the Illinois State Bar Association
11(ISBA) in 2019; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Officer Rashkow will continue serving with the
13Benedictine University Police; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
15HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
16we congratulate Officer Douglas Rashkow on his retirement from
17the Aurora Police Department, recognize his service to the
18City of Aurora, and wish him the best in his future endeavors;
19and be it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to Officer Rashkow as an expression of our esteem
22and respect.
