HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Paul Baumunk on the occasion of the Village of Lindenhurst Veteran's Memorial being rededicated in his name; and

WHEREAS, Paul Baumunk served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam from 1969 to 1970; in Vietnam, he was a personnel specialist in the infantry for U.S. Strategic Command; while overseas, he also volunteered as an English instructor at a girls' high school in Vietnam; and

WHEREAS, Paul Baumunk has been awarded a Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal (1st Oak Leaf Cluster), National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the Sharpshooter Marksmanship Badge; and

WHEREAS, Paul Baumunk is a tireless advocate for veterans and their families; he has been an active member of the Lake Villa Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post 4308, Lake County Honor Flight, Lake Villa Township Lions Club, and the Lake County Veteran's Assistance Commission; and

WHEREAS, Paul Baumunk founded the first Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Lindenhurst and was later instrumental in merging the Lake Villa and Lindenhurst posts; and

WHEREAS, Paul Baumunk serves as a director on the Lake County Veterans Assistance Commission; he has served on the Commission's executive board since 2018; he also participated in the Lake County Honor Flight in 2018; he has since become active in recruiting other veterans to participate in the program; and

WHEREAS, Paul Baumunk has served as the chairman of the village's Veteran's Committee since 2006 and spearheaded the construction of the memorial; he still serves as the committee's chair and coordinates and hosts veterans' events on behalf of the village; and

WHEREAS, Paul Baumunk served as mayor of Lindenhurst from 1991 to 2003; he is an active member of St. Mark's Church in Lindenhurst; he was also a shop teacher at the Lake County Tech Campus at the College of Lake County for 31 years; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Paul Baumunk on the occasion of the Village of Lindenhurst Veteran's Memorial being renamed the Paul Baumunk Veteran's Memorial; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Paul Baumunk as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
