HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Paul Buss on his retirement after 44 years of service as the Jackson Township Highway Commissioner; and

WHEREAS, Paul Buss is a 56 year resident of Jackson Township; he has been married to Annette (Mackey) for 56 years; they have four children, Tim, Kim, Bryan, and Jason, and 14 grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Jackson Township has a population of some 4,100 and covers more than 36 square miles; and

WHEREAS, Paul Buss served as a Jackson Township Trustee for four years prior to becoming highway commissioner; he is the longest tenured highway commissioner in all of Will County; and

WHEREAS, When Paul Buss took the office of Jackson Township Highway Commissioner, there were just two pieces of old equipment for the township; under his leadership, a full vehicle inventory has been outfitted to serve the township, and a garage was built to house the fleet; and

WHEREAS, As commissioner, Paul Buss had all township roads paved; he pledged to replace every bridge with a new, code-complaint one, and the last bridge is currently being replaced; he had street lights installed at all major intersections; and

WHEREAS, Paul Buss mandated that all projects over $20,000 be done through a sealed bid to ensure fairness and transparency, and he relinquished his pension to save taxpayer money; and

WHEREAS, Paul Buss has been a member of the Plumbers & Pipefitters Local #422 for 50 years; he is a past member of the Elwood Lions Club; he is a Joliet Catholic Academy alumnus and now serves as a member of the school's board of directors; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Paul Buss on his retirement after 44 years of service as the Jackson Township Highway Commissioner and commend him on his unwavering dedication, service, and leadership; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Paul Buss as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
