SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
105 ILCS 5/22-19.5 new

    Amends the School Code. Provides that no student attending a public school in any of grades kindergarten through 12 may be discriminated against on the basis of race, color, religion, ancestry, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, socioeconomic status, or mental, physical, developmental, or sensory disability or by association with an individual or group who has or is perceived to have one or more of such characteristics. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning education.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section
522-19.5 as follows:
 
6    (105 ILCS 5/22-19.5 new)
7    Sec. 22-19.5. Students' bill of rights. No student
8attending a public school in any of grades kindergarten
9through 12 may be discriminated against on the basis of race,
10color, religion, ancestry, national origin, gender, sexual
11orientation, gender identity or expression, socioeconomic
12status, or mental, physical, developmental, or sensory
13disability or by association with an individual or group who
14has or is perceived to have one or more of such
15characteristics.
 
16    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
17becoming law.
