SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, 2021 marks the 50th anniversary of the Copernicus
3Foundation, a cultural and civic center serving the Polish
4community as well as other ethnic groups; and
 
5    WHEREAS, The Copernicus Foundation was charted as a
6non-for-profit organization in July of 1971 to serve the
7metropolitan Chicago area as a major civic, educational,
8recreational, and entertainment resource; and
 
9    WHEREAS, The officers of the Copernicus Foundation are
10Chairman of the Board Hubert Cioromski, President Mario
11Mikoda, and Executive Director Kamila Sumelka; and
 
12    WHEREAS, The mission of the Copernicus Foundation is to
13preserve the Polish culture and historic heritage with pride;
14and
 
15    WHEREAS, The Copernicus Foundation allows patrons to
16glimpse life as it was lived by their ancestors and to connect
17to a timeless culture; and
 
18    WHEREAS, For the past 40 years, the Copernicus Foundation
19has sponsored the annual Taste of Polonia, Chicago's oldest
20and largest ethnic neighborhood festival; and

1    WHEREAS, The Copernicus Foundation is not only the home of
2several organizations and non-for-profits but also a civic
3partner of the Jefferson Park community; it is located on
4Milwaukee Avenue, Chicago's "Polish Corridor", and is the
5anchor of the city's Little Warsaw; therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
7ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare July 12,
82021 as Copernicus Foundation Day in the State of Illinois;
9and be it further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to the Copernicus Foundation as a symbol of our
12respect and esteem.
