SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Captain Antoine Marvin Lewis; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Captain Antoine Lewis was born in Chicago to
5Rodney A. Sr. and Antoinette Lewis on May 9, 1979; he graduated
6from Rich Central High School in 1997; he was very studious and
7felt it was important to understand history and African
8culture; he joined the U.S. Army as a track vehicle mechanic
9and spent his first three years stationed in Germany; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Captain Antoine Lewis left the military and spent
11some time as a civilian recruiter; he worked as an interstate
12truck driver and, after visiting most of the big cities in the
13U.S., felt that Chicago was the greatest of them all; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Captain Antoine Lewis re-enlisted in the military
15as a motor transport/truck driver; he soon decided to become a
16logistical officer; he attended Officer Candidate School and
17was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant Transportation Officer
18in 2011; after achieving his goal of becoming an officer, he
19continued to travel the world, visiting Germany, Kosovo, Ghana,
20France, the Dominican Republic, China, Ireland, Thailand, the
21Philippines, and Canada; during this time, he completed his
22Bachelor of Arts in Business Management from Strayer

1University; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Captain Antoine Lewis was serving in Afghanistan
3in 2012 when he met Yalena Lopez; he was stationed in Korea
4from 2015 to 2017; he and Yalena were married on March 25,
52018; and
 
6    WHEREAS, After 14 years of military service, Captain
7Antoine Lewis was a highly decorated captain and received
8numerous awards and honors; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Captain Antoine Lewis was committed to life-long
10learning, loved all people, attended church faithfully, and was
11devoted to illuminating the beauty and richness of Africa; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Captain Antoine Lewis was preceded in death by his
13sister, Kristina Lynn Lewis; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Captain Antoine Lewis is survived by his wife,
15Yalena Lopez-Lewis, his sons, Antoine Marvin Lewis Jr. and
16Messiah Phelps; his parents; and his siblings, Ronetta Hoskins,
17Rodney (Terry) Lewis Jr., Antoinette Lewis Jr., Monica (Marcus)
18Wilson, Markita Lewis, Michael Lewis, and Angelo Lewis;
19therefore, be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL

1ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
2Captain Antoine Marvin Lewis and extend our sincere condolences
3to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
4it further
 
5    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6presented to the family of Captain Antoine Lewis as an
7expression of our deepest sympathy.
