SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Harry W. Button of Rock Island, who
4passed away on August 5, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Harry Button was born to Henry and Elena Button on
6February 9, 1936; he graduated from Waterloo High School in
71954 and attended Wartburg College; he served in the United
8States Army from 1958 to 1962 and was married to Dorothy
9(Nieukirk) Button from 1958 until her passing in 1969; he was
10married to Kay (Huntington) Button from 1971 until her passing
11in 1975; and
 
12    WHEREAS, After his military service, Harry Button began
13working as a morning news personality at KFJB, the local radio
14station in Marshalltown, Iowa; in 1967, he began a career
15working with various Chambers of Commerce in the states of
16Iowa, Illinois, and Ohio; he retired in 1998 and later settled
17in Jerseyville, until his move to Rock Island in 2018; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Harry Button enjoyed puns, baseball, theater, and
19choir; he was active in the Lutheran Church throughout his
20life; he had a lifelong passion for technology and electronics;
21he enjoyed engaging in debate over religion, politics, and the
22news of the day; in his retirement in Jerseyville, he served as

1treasurer for Resurrection Lutheran Church in Godfrey; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Harry Button was preceded in death by his first
3wife, Dorothy; his second wife, Kay; and many friends and
4family; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Harry Button is survived by his sisters, Betty
6(Button) Miller and Ruth (Button) Grau; his children, Doug
7Button, Michael Button, Julie (Button) Hastings, and Peggy
8Button; and his grandchildren, Chris Hanson, Matthew Hanson,
9Deni Parker, Daisy Parker, Dustin Parker, Charlie Button, and
10Missy Button; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
13Harry Button and extend our sincere condolences to his family,
14friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Harry Button as an expression of our
17deepest sympathy.
