| 1 | | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| 2 | | WHEREAS, March has been designated as Women's History Month | 3 | | to honor the contributions of women to our State and to our | 4 | | nation; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Women living in nursing homes are among our oldest | 6 | | Illinoisans of every race, ethnicity, and socio-economic | 7 | | status and have contributed mightily to our communities through | 8 | | their passion, ingenuity, and tireless determination; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, They have earned the right to be honored, cared | 10 | | for, and protected as women of wisdom; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Female nursing home residents have raised their | 12 | | families, taught our children, and led their communities; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, In their lifetimes, these women of wisdom have | 14 | | broken through the glass ceiling, served in the military to | 15 | | preserve freedom, and fought for the rights of women and | 16 | | children to live free from violence; and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, These women of wisdom have marched on the Chicago | 18 | | lakefront and the streets of Springfield as they worked | 19 | | tirelessly to ratify the ERA in Illinois; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Many struggled to raise their children, earning | 2 | | only 59 cents for every dollar earned by their male | 3 | | counterparts; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Many of these women of wisdom are now over 100 | 5 | | years old and must now look to the younger generations to care | 6 | | for them; and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, They are deserving of the highest caliber of care | 8 | | as they live out their final years; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, It is important they are not forgotten and are | 10 | | included in the celebration of Women's History Month; | 11 | | therefore, be it
| 12 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 13 | | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 14 | | all women residing in skilled nursing facilities in Illinois | 15 | | should be honored for their lifelong service to their families | 16 | | and communities.
