SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Kenneth Ray Beyer, formerly of Woodstock, who passed away on August 26, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Kenneth Beyer was born in Chicago to Raymond and Fern Beyer on February 14, 1941; as a young man, he was gifted in math and received donor-paid tuition to university, but he dropped out in his first year when his father was stricken with cancer; he joined the United States Air Force and spent four years in the service, stationed primarily in Turkey; he then worked for the National Security Agency as a codebreaker during the Cuban Missile Crisis; and

WHEREAS, When he returned to civilian life, Kenneth Beyer worked for Frank Cacci at the Woodstock News Agency; when the business sold, he opened Temple Hobbies and later Beyer's News Depot and Hobby Shop, a favorite place for both young and old to buy coffee, soft drinks, papers, magazines, and hobby supplies; and

WHEREAS, Kenneth Beyer sold his business and retired to Kingman, Arizona; once a year, he drove around the United States to visit his children and grandchildren on the East Coast, his brother and family in Woodstock, and occasionally friends in Florida; he was an avid Cubs fan and vowed to live until they won the World Series; and

WHEREAS, Kenneth Beyer was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Diane; and

WHEREAS, Kenneth Beyer is survived by his brother, Donald (Judy); his two daughters, Lisa (Tim Coman) and Eva (Paul Davis); his sons, David (Lisa Weckerle) and James (Jessica); his four grandchildren; and his four nieces and three nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Kenneth Ray Beyer, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Kenneth Beyer as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
