| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of R-Lou Barker of Springfield, who passed | 4 | | away on April 21, 2018; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, R-Lou Barker was born in McPherson, Kansas to John | 6 | | Clifford and Hazel Dell Washburn Porter on December 18, 1933; | 7 | | she attended schools in Centralia, Missouri and Glenarm, | 8 | | Illinois; she graduated from Ball Township High School and | 9 | | attended the University of Illinois at Springfield; she married | 10 | | Morton Darrell Barker Jr. in Chicago on June 29, 1953; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, R-Lou Barker was a community advocate; she was | 12 | | active at the board level of many organizations, including the | 13 | | Daughters of the American Revolution, the Land of Lincoln Girl | 14 | | Scout Council, the Springfield Art Association, the | 15 | | Springfield Symphony Women's Board, the Vachel Lindsay | 16 | | Association, the Illinois State Museum Society, and the | 17 | | Illinois State Museum; her dedication to the preservation of | 18 | | historic sites was demonstrated by her long-term service on the | 19 | | Springfield Historic Sites Commission and the Dana-Thomas | 20 | | House Foundation; she also served as Chairman of the Illinois | 21 | | Center for the Book and the Illinois Committee for the National | 22 | | Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C.; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, R-Lou Barker was an avid traveler; she visited | 2 | | both the North and South Poles and every continent; she | 3 | | believed there was "always another adventure to be | 4 | | experienced"; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, R-Lou Barker was preceded in death by her parents; | 6 | | her husband, Morton; her son, Morton Darrell Barker III; and | 7 | | her sister, Ruth Porter Shepherd; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, R-Lou Barker is survived by her sons, Robert | 9 | | (Anne), Jess (Barbara), John, and Paul; her seven | 10 | | grandchildren, her three great-grandchildren; her sister, | 11 | | Martha (Bob) Fielding; and her three nieces and nephews; | 12 | | therefore, be it
| 13 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | 14 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 15 | | R-Lou Barker and extend our sincere condolences to her family, | 16 | | friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further
| 17 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 18 | | presented to the family of R-Lou Barker as an expression of our | 19 | | deepest sympathy.
