SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Elizabeth "Bettie" Sczygielski, who passed away on December 10, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Bettie Sczygielski was born in Waukegan to Andrew and Mary (Rompella) Schultz on August 28, 1944; she was raised in the heart of North Chicago's Polish community and attended Holy Rosary Grade School; she attended North Chicago High School; she married Walter "Wally" Sczygielski at Holy Rosary Church on September 3, 1966; they traveled extensively during their early years together; and

WHEREAS, Bettie Sczygielski worked as a cosmetics buyer for Osco Drug and retired in 1979; she then became a full-time homemaker and focused all of her energy on her family; and

WHEREAS, Bettie Sczygielski was involved in many non-profit organizations and often volunteered her time; she traveled frequently to visit her grandchildren; she enjoyed baking cookies and surprising the kids with little heartfelt gifts; she also enjoyed celebrating her Polish heritage and supporting animal rescue organizations; and

WHEREAS, Bettie Sczygielski was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter; and her siblings, Dorothy Smith, Pearl Scarbalis, and James Schultz; and

WHEREAS, Bettie Sczygielski is survived by her children, Lauren (Daniel) Anders and Andrew (Megan) Sczygielski; and her grandchildren, William, Claire, Anna, Maura, and Thomas; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Elizabeth "Bettie" Sczygielski and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Bettie Sczygielski as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
