| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Elizabeth "Bettie" Sczygielski, who | 4 | | passed away on December 10, 2017; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Bettie Sczygielski was born in Waukegan to Andrew | 6 | | and Mary (Rompella) Schultz on August 28, 1944; she was raised | 7 | | in the heart of North Chicago's Polish community and attended | 8 | | Holy Rosary Grade School; she attended North Chicago High | 9 | | School; she married Walter "Wally" Sczygielski at Holy Rosary | 10 | | Church on September 3, 1966; they traveled extensively during | 11 | | their early years together; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Bettie Sczygielski worked as a cosmetics buyer for | 13 | | Osco Drug and retired in 1979; she then became a full-time | 14 | | homemaker and focused all of her energy on her family; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Bettie Sczygielski was involved in many | 16 | | non-profit organizations and often volunteered her time; she | 17 | | traveled frequently to visit her grandchildren; she enjoyed | 18 | | baking cookies and surprising the kids with little heartfelt | 19 | | gifts; she also enjoyed celebrating her Polish heritage and | 20 | | supporting animal rescue organizations; and
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Bettie Sczygielski was preceded in death by her |

| 1 | | parents; her husband, Walter; and her siblings, Dorothy Smith, | 2 | | Pearl Scarbalis, and James Schultz; and
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Bettie Sczygielski is survived by her children, | 4 | | Lauren (Daniel) Anders and Andrew (Megan) Sczygielski; and her | 5 | | grandchildren, William, Claire, Anna, Maura, and Thomas; | 6 | | therefore, be it
| 7 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | 8 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 9 | | Elizabeth "Bettie" Sczygielski and extend our sincere | 10 | | condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved | 11 | | her; and be it further
| 12 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 13 | | presented to the family of Bettie Sczygielski as an expression | 14 | | of our deepest sympathy.
