HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, It is with great sorrow that the Illinois House of Representatives learned of the passing of Officer Jaimie Cox, who passed away in the line of duty while serving his community as a member of the Rockford Police Department on November 5, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Officer Cox was born in Rockford, Illinois to James and Terry (Jenkins) Cox on August 4, 1987; he graduated from Hononegah High School and Northern Illinois University; and

WHEREAS, Officer Cox was a proud veteran of the United States Army National Guard and served from 2004 until 2010; he was part of an Army National Guard contingent deployed to the Nangarhar province in Afghanistan and received many honors, including The Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Combat Infantryman Badge, and the Illinois National Guard Abraham Lincoln Medal of Freedom Ribbon; and

WHEREAS, Officer Cox began his service with the Rockford Police Department in 2016; previously, he served with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources Division of Law and Enforcement; and

WHEREAS, Officer Cox never settled for just doing the job at hand; he never hesitated to go above and beyond if it meant helping his colleagues, friends, family, or innocent civilians; he was a loving husband, son, brother, uncle, and friend who touched the lives of all of those he met; he will be deeply missed; and

WHEREAS, Officer Cox was preceded in death by his mother, Terry; and his grandparents; and

WHEREAS, Officer Cox is survived by his loving wife, Caitlin; his father, Jim and (Sherry) Cox; his siblings, Sean and Maggie Cox; his nieces and nephews, Jaidyn, Marquis Jr., Isaiah, Ava, Ariia, and Christian; his many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends; and his beloved dog, Ruger; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we commend Officer Jaimie Cox on a life well lived, exemplified by love, friendship, and a selfless duty to serve others, and we extend our sincere condolences to his friends, family, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Officer Cox as an expression of our respect and admiration.
