HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate their colleague, State Rep. Jeanne Ives, on the occasion of her retirement as State Representative of the 42nd District; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Ives grew up in Vermillion, South Dakota and graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science in Economics; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Ives served in the U.S. Army until 1993; her assignments included platoon leader and headquarters detachment commander for transportation units in Germany and ROTC instructor at Wheaton College; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Ives resigned from the Army in 1993 to raise her children and work as a tax advisor and bookkeeper for small businesses and individuals; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Ives was elected to the Wheaton City Council in 2011; her tenure was marked by conservative leadership and an unwavering commitment to the taxpayers' bottom line; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Ives ran for State Representative in 2012, won a competitive Republican primary, and was elected to the seat in November; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Ives took the oath of office as State Representative for the 42nd District in January of 2013; among her first acts, she refused both a taxpayer-funded pension and healthcare; and

WHEREAS, In her first term, Rep. Ives focused on pension and tax reform in the State, term limits for lawmakers, government transparency, and school choice; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Ives served with distinction as a member of the Task Force on Veterans' Suicide and the Discharged Servicemember Task Force; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Ives has lived in Wheaton for over 25 years with her husband, Paul, who is also a USMA Class of 1987 graduate, and their five children; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Ives is a proud parent volunteer at her children's schools and has been coaching the St. Michael Boys and Girls Championship Cross Country teams for 12 years; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate State Rep. Jeanne Ives on her retirement, commend her for her distinguished service to the 42nd District, and wish her the best in all her future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to the Honorable Jeanne Ives as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
