| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate Timothy L. Dotson on the | 4 | | occasion of his retirement from the Chicago Police Department; | 5 | | and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Timothy Dotson was born in Chicago to Leroy and | 7 | | Ida Grace Dotson on June 5, 1966; he attended Frank L. | 8 | | Gillespie Elementary School and Chicago Vocational Jr.
High | 9 | | School, where he majored in commercial arts; he then enlisted | 10 | | in the
United States Marine Corps; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Timothy Dotson married his high school | 12 | | sweetheart,
Thaddy Jenise Dotson, and they had three children, | 13 | | Timothy Jr., Tiffany, and
Troy; and | 14 | | WHEREAS, Timothy Dotson served his country on active duty | 15 | | in the Marine Corps
for approximately seven years; he served in | 16 | | various capacities
including as a field artillery cannon crew | 17 | | chief, a military policeman, and a cadre trainer; his military | 18 | | service took him to numerous places, including California, | 19 | | Okinawa, and
Seoul; it was his stint as a military policeman | 20 | | that cultivated his
desire to work within the law enforcement | 21 | | profession; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, While still on active duty with the Marines, | 2 | | Timothy Dotson attended the Ventura County Police & Sheriff's | 3 | | Academy; he graduated as the outstanding cadet of his class and | 4 | | was hired as a reserve police officer for the beach front city | 5 | | of Port Hueneme,
California; and | 6 | | WHEREAS, Upon conclusion of his active duty military | 7 | | obligation, Timothy Dotson returned home to the
Chicago area | 8 | | and worked as a firearms instructor for PBS, a private security | 9 | | school; he was hired a short time later by the Chicago Transit | 10 | | Authority as a bus operator, where he worked until the City of | 11 | | Gary (Indiana) hired him as a
police officer; he attended the | 12 | | Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in Plainfield, Indiana, where | 13 | | he was named president of the class by his peers and Squad | 14 | | Leader of
Class 94-117 by the academy staff; and | 15 | | WHEREAS, As a Gary Police Officer, Timothy Dotson was | 16 | | entrusted to work within the Public
Morals Bureau after only a | 17 | | few short months on the job; he later worked on the Lake County | 18 | | Violent Crimes Fugitive Task Force or "Safe Streets", headed by | 19 | | the Federal Bureau of Investigation; he was
recognized by the | 20 | | Optimist Club of Hammond Indiana for his dedication to duty; he | 21 | | was also
recognized by the Merrillville office of the FBI for | 22 | | his role in Safe Street's achieving 500
arrests; and | 23 | | WHEREAS, Timothy Dotson served the City of Gary Indiana for |

| 1 | | three years before moving back to
Chicago and accepting a | 2 | | position with the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District | 3 | | Police, where he served for two years
before realizing his | 4 | | dream of serving with the Chicago Police Department; and | 5 | | WHEREAS, Timothy Dotson served the citizens of Chicago with | 6 | | distinction; during his 20-year career, he worked in the Grand | 7 | | Crossing Police District as a patrolman, field training | 8 | | officer, tactical
officer, and gang enforcement officer; his | 9 | | other assignments included special
operations and the training | 10 | | academy; after 17 years of hard work and dedication, he
was | 11 | | promoted to the rank of detective; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Timothy Dotson's first assignment was as a Special | 13 | | Victim's Unit Detective; he
later worked within the Violent | 14 | | Crimes Unit as a Homicide and General Investigation
Detective; | 15 | | he completed both a Bachelor of Science in Law Enforcement | 16 | | Management and a Master of Science in Public Safety | 17 | | Administration; and | 18 | | WHEREAS, Timothy Dotson received numerous awards and | 19 | | commendations, including two CPD Life Saving
Awards, three | 20 | | departmental commendations, and over 70 departmental honorable
| 21 | | mentions; and
| 22 | | WHEREAS, Timothy Dotson has also been ordained as a gospel |

| 1 | | minister and has attained a master's degree in ministry from
| 2 | | the McCormick Theological Seminary; therefore, be it
| 3 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 4 | | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | 5 | | congratulate Timothy L. Dotson on his retirement from the | 6 | | Chicago Police Department, and we wish him the best in all his | 7 | | future endeavors; and be it further
| 8 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 9 | | presented to Timothy Dotson as an expression of our esteem and | 10 | | respect.
