SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Sylvester A. "Sam" McCabe of Colona, who passed away on June 8, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Sylvester McCabe was born on March 23, 1935 in Cresco, Iowa; his parents were Benedict and Rose Lannen McCabe; he married Janice Reeder on January 4, 1958 in Decorah, Iowa; and

WHEREAS, Sylvester McCabe served in the United States Marine Corps from 1954 to 1957; he was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal; and

WHEREAS, Sylvester McCabe worked at John Deere Harvester in East Moline, retiring after 35 years of service; and

WHEREAS, Sylvester McCabe served on the Colona City Council; he served as president and coach of Colona Little League and as president of the Colona School Board; he was also Cub Master for Cub Scouts and an active member of the Lions Club; and

WHEREAS, Sylvester McCabe was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings; and

WHEREAS, Sylvester McCabe is survived by his wife, Janice; his children, Kevin (Diana) McCabe, Jay (Bao) McCabe, Rick McCabe, and Kristen Crimmins; his grandchildren, James (Nicole) McCabe, Shelly Christensen, Mitchell (Sarah) McCabe, Brittany (Ben) Junis, and Danielle Patterson; and 12 great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of Sylvester A. "Sam" McCabe; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Sylvester McCabe as an expression of our sympathy.
