SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Chester Stranczek; and

WHEREAS, Chester Stranczek served as Mayor of the Village of Crestwood from 1969 until he stepped down in August of 2007; prior to becoming Mayor, he had served as a village trustee for a dozen years; and

WHEREAS, During his tenure as Mayor, Chester Stranczek was instrumental in developing retail projects, such as the Rivercrest Shopping Center, and in building recreational facilities for village residents, such as the wellness center and Biela Center; he spearheaded the initiative to refund a portion of the Village's share of the overall property tax bill back to the Village's residents; he was also instrumental in bringing the Cook County Cheetahs to the Village in 1999; and

WHEREAS, Chester Stranczek was the founder of Harvey-based trucking company Cresco Lines; he started in the trucking business in 1959, hauling his first load for Allied Tube and Conduit; while heading up Cresco, he served as chairman of the American Trucking Association; he retired from the company in 1995; and

WHEREAS, Chester Stranczek and his wife, Diane, were contributors to Canisius College, a Jesuit institution in Buffalo, New York, from which he received an honorary degree in 2001; he was also a board member at the college; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of Chester Stranczek; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Chester Stranczek as an expression of our sympathy.
