SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Chester Stranczek; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Chester Stranczek served as Mayor of the Village
5of Crestwood from 1969 until he stepped down in August of 2007;
6prior to becoming Mayor, he had served as a village trustee for
7a dozen years; and
 
8    WHEREAS, During his tenure as Mayor, Chester Stranczek was
9instrumental in developing retail projects, such as the
10Rivercrest Shopping Center, and in building recreational
11facilities for village residents, such as the wellness center
12and Biela Center; he spearheaded the initiative to refund a
13portion of the Village's share of the overall property tax bill
14back to the Village's residents; he was also instrumental in
15bringing the Cook County Cheetahs to the Village in 1999; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Chester Stranczek was the founder of Harvey-based
17trucking company Cresco Lines; he started in the trucking
18business in 1959, hauling his first load for Allied Tube and
19Conduit; while heading up Cresco, he served as chairman of the
20American Trucking Association; he retired from the company in
211995; and

1    WHEREAS, Chester Stranczek and his wife, Diane, were
2contributors to Canisius College, a Jesuit institution in
3Buffalo, New York, from which he received an honorary degree in
42001; he was also a board member at the college; therefore, be
5it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
7ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
8family and friends, mourn the passing of Chester Stranczek; and
9be it further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to the family of Chester Stranczek as an expression
12of our sympathy.
