SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
20 ILCS 2305/8.5 new

    Amends the Department of Public Health Act. Requires the Department of Public Health to establish a 3-year pilot program that provides diabetes testing and education on diabetes management in Cook County, DeKalb County, and Rock Island County from funds appropriated for that purpose. Provides that the Department shall designate a single community-based, not-for-profit provider of healthy living services to manage and administer the program; and that the designated provider shall receive reimbursement under the medical assistance program for the diabetes testing and educational services provided under the pilot program. Grants the Department rulemaking authority. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning State government.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Department of Public Health Act is amended
5by adding Section 8.5 as follows:
 
6    (20 ILCS 2305/8.5 new)
7    Sec. 8.5. Diabetes testing and diabetes management; pilot
8program. From funds appropriated for that purpose, the
9Department of Public Health shall establish a 3-year pilot
10program that provides diabetes testing and education on
11diabetes management in Cook County, DeKalb County, and Rock
12Island County. To implement the pilot program, the Department
13shall designate a single community-based, not-for-profit
14provider of healthy living services to manage and administer
15the program. The designated provider shall receive
16reimbursement under the medical assistance program for the
17diabetes testing and educational services provided under the
18pilot program. The Department shall adopt rules in cooperation
19with the Department of Healthcare and Family Services to
20implement this Section.
 
21    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
22becoming law.
