SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Joseph H. Whalen of Colchester, who passed away on December 22, 2013; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Whalen was born on July 29, 1921 in Colchester to Peter and Mary (nee Murphy) Whalen; he served his country in the United States Army in the South Pacific theater during World War II; he married Joan Yetter on November 4, 1949; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Whalen retired from farming; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Whalen was a member of St. Paul Church of Macomb, the Macomb American Legion, the Veteran's of Foreign Wars, and was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Whalen was preceded in death by his wife, Joan; his parents; his sisters, Teresa Connor, Gertrude Pittenger, and Margaret Spangler; and his brothers, Bernard and John Whalen; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Whalen is survived by his daughters, Kathleen Whalen, Susie (Mike) Nichols, and Barbara Thompson; his sons, Bernard (Joan) Whalen and Patrick Whalen; his grandchildren, Joseph (Amanda) Nichols, Wesley Thompson, Brock (Kim) Thompson, Gracie Whalen, Kelly (Diana) Nichols, Tyler (Jessica) Nichols, Amanda Whalen, Caitlin Whalen, Ryne Caleb (Katie) Whalen, and Alex Whalen; his great-grandchildren, Ryne Caleb Whalen II, Carson Whalen, and Quin, Jace, Easton, Jalie, and Davis Nichols; and several nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Joseph H. Whalen, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Joseph Whalen as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
