HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Trooper Brad Williams of the Illinois State Police
3District 20 post at Pittsfield was recently a finalist for the
4International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Trooper of
5the Year Award; and
 
6    WHEREAS, On April 24, 2013, 5 members of a family,
7including 2 children, were murdered in a horrific attack in
8Manchester while another child was seriously wounded; and
 
9    WHEREAS, That morning, Trooper Williams was on patrol in
10the area and spotted a vehicle matching the description of the
11gunman's car; he immediately began a pursuit of the dangerous
12fugitive, calling in other officers to assist; the pursuit
13ended when Chief George Lindsey of the Winchester Police
14Department struck the fleeing vehicle with his car, only to
15have the driver emerge with a shotgun; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Trooper Williams tipped his motorcycle over,
17leapt off, and drew his weapon just as the gunman fired a shot
18at Chief Lindsey; he and other arriving officers ended the
19manhunt and pursuit before additional lives were endangered;
20and
 
21    WHEREAS, Trooper Williams's decisive action in identifying

1the vehicle and in acting in defense of fellow officers
2doubtlessly saved several lives; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Trooper Williams was honored for his heroic action
4by the International Association of Chiefs of Police;
5therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
7NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
8we congratulate Trooper Brad Williams on his IACP recognition,
9and thank him for his heroic service on April 24, 2013 and
10every other day that he wears the uniform of the Illinois State
11Police; and be it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to Trooper Brad Williams as an expression of our
14gratitude, esteem, and respect.
