SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Tyrone Leon Thompson of St. Louis,
4Missouri, who passed away on June 5, 2010; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Tyrone Leon Thompson was born July 14, 1962 in St.
6Louis to the union of Jack and Betty Thompson; he confessed a
7hope in Christ at the Wayman A.M.E. Temple under the leadership
8of the Reverend Samuel Pointer; he and his family later joined
9Northern Missionary Baptist Church; and
 
10    WHEREAS, He was educated in the University City School
11District and was a proud graduate of University City High
12School Class of 1982; Tyrone began his college education at
13Lincoln University and later transferred to Webster
14University; Tyrone entered the police academy and served as a
15police officer for the City of University City, where he
16advanced to the role of detective before being appointed Chief
17of Police for the City of Pagedale, where he served with
18enthusiasm; and
 
19    WHEREAS, After several years in law enforcement, Tyrone
20began his tenure with Kwame Building Group; he worked in many
21capacities as a vital part of Kwame Building Group and helped
22to ensure the effective operation of the company; at the time

1of his passing, he worked at Kwame Building Group, attended
2school, raised three children, and worked as a fraud
3investigator for the Missouri Attorney General's Office; and
 
4    WHEREAS, He spent many years as a mentor to high school
5students and enjoyed his weekly mentoring trips to Carnahan
6High School; he was the President of the Dr. Martin Luther
7King, Jr. St. Louis, Missouri Support Group, which focused on
8the teaching of non-violence; Tyrone organized many trips to
9Atlanta, Georgia for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday
10celebration; and
 
11    WHEREAS, His love of music was evident, whether he was
12playing his two favorite songs on the bass, "Fantastic Voyage"
13and "Boogie Oogie Oogie"; performing karaoke with his sister,
14Sonja; or building his music library on his computer; he looked
15forward to time spent with his UCHS Class of 1982 classmates
16and his Black Cinema Sunday family; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Tyrone Thompson will be remembered by his
18children, Tyrell, Kayla, and Tyler Thompson and their mother,
19Victoria; his parents, Jack and former Missouri State
20Representative Betty Thompson; his two grandparents, Mozella
21Cavitt and Mandy Louatrice White; his two brothers, Anthony
22(Kim) and Kwame; his sister, Sonja Branscomb; his three nieces,
23Kristin Thompson and Imani and Ayanna Branscomb; his nephew,

1Michael Thompson; and a host of aunts, uncles, family, and
2friends; therefore, be it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
4ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
5his family and friends, the passing of Tyrone Thompson; and be
6it further
 
7    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
8presented to the family of Tyrone Leon Thompson as a symbol of
9our sincere sympathy.
