HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to congratulate Annie Mae Phipps
4 Anderson on her 92nd birthday; and
 
5     WHEREAS, She was born May 4, 1917 in Grenada, Mississippi
6 to the late Brady and Claudia Phipps, the second of 17
7 children; and
 
8     WHEREAS, She met and married Melemore Anderson when she was
9 17 years old; together they raised 8 children, Emal (deceased),
10 Margaret (deceased), Robert Earl, Vera Lee (deceased),
11 Christine, Ollie Faye, Carolyn, and Jerome; and
 
12     WHEREAS, She has also been blessed with 10 grandchildren, 8
13 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great grandchildren, and 2
14 great-great-great grandchildren; and
 
15     WHEREAS, She was raised picking cotton, drawing water from
16 the well, and heating the iron by the fire; she remembers fresh
17 chicken and vegetables from the yard, walking miles to school
18 and the community church; she also believes that these
19 experiences developed her character and made her into a
20 God-fearing and God-respectful, loving, strong, and courageous
21 Black woman; and

1     WHEREAS, She has been a resident and faithful voter in the
2 27th Ward for 45 years; she attends Herman Baptist Church under
3 the ministry of Reverend Keith Edwards; she opens her door to
4 those who need a place to stay, and her home is a place where
5 people feel comfortable gathering on the holidays; and
 
6     WHEREAS, She is the entrepreneur who is responsible for
7 founding, manufacturing, and distributing "Annie's Cha-Cha and
8 Pickled Peppers"; therefore, be it
 
9     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
10 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
11 congratulate Annie Mae Phipps Anderson on this momentous
12 occasion and wish her the best in the future; and be it further
 
13     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14 presented to Annie Mae Phipps Anderson as a symbol of our
15 sincere respect.
