| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate were deeply | 3 | | saddened to learn of the death of Rita G. Harvard, of | 4 | | Naperville, who passed away on June 15, 2012; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, She was born on June 28, 1929, in Aurora to Walter | 6 | | and Grace Fredenhagen; she met her husband-to-be at Naperville | 7 | | High School, from which they both graduated in 1947; they were | 8 | | married for 31 years; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, She attended Monmouth College earning a bachelors | 10 | | of science in biology and was inducted into the Mortar Board | 11 | | Honor Society; she spent two years teaching in Dixon; she | 12 | | taught Sunday School at Grace United Methodist Church for 12 | 13 | | years, also serving as Sunday school superintendent and helping | 14 | | design the church building; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, She served as secretary and treasurer for her | 16 | | family business, Prince Castles/Cock Robin Companies from 1972 | 17 | | to 1985 and then at the Naperville Creamery Co. from 1985 to | 18 | | 2000; she volunteered at Edward Hospital as a member of the | 19 | | Institutional Review Board; she was a member of the Fire and | 20 | | Police Board of Commissioners for 8 years; and
| 21 | | WHEREAS, She received many awards, including the Gael Swing |

| 1 | | Award of Meritorious Service from North Cental College for her | 2 | | involvement as a trustee for 28 years, the Heritage Society | 3 | | Hall of Honor, the Naperville chapter of the A.A.U.W. "Woman of | 4 | | the Year", the DuPage County YWCA Outstanding Woman of the | 5 | | Year, and the Jaycees and the Chamber of Commerce Lifetime | 6 | | Achievement Awards; she joined the Rotary Club of Naperville in | 7 | | 1985 and was elected the first female president and Rotarian of | 8 | | the Year; she also served as grand marshal of the Labor Day | 9 | | Parade and was selected to be included in the Marquis Who's Who | 10 | | of American Women; and | 11 | | WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter | 12 | | and Grace; her brother, James Fredenhagen; her sister, Jeanne | 13 | | Fredenhagen Moen; and her step-son, Kent Harvard; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, She is survived by her husband, John; her | 15 | | children, Susan (Keith) Kroskoz, Jodie (Dave) Anderson, and Tom | 16 | | (Laura) Castagnoli; her step-daughters, Kelly (Dean) Pelland | 17 | | and Kerry (Preston) Irwin; her brother, Ted Fredenhagen; her | 18 | | eight grandchildren; her great-grandson; her six | 19 | | step-grandchildren; and her three step-great-granddaughters; | 20 | | therefore, be it
| 21 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL | 22 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 23 | | Rita G. Harvard, and we extend our sincere condolences to her |
