| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of John A. Janicik, who passed away August | 4 | | 8, 2019 at the age of 62; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, John Janicik was born on May 2, 1957 in Belleville | 6 | | to Albert and Eileen Janicik; and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, John Janicik attended Knox College, where he | 8 | | wrestled and earned his bachelor's degree; he then went to work | 9 | | in manufacturing; he became a travel assistant to former | 10 | | Illinois Governor James R. Thompson and then a legislative | 11 | | liaison for the Illinois Department of Commerce and Community | 12 | | Affairs and a legal clerk with the Illinois Commerce | 13 | | Commission; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, John Janicik was encouraged by Gov. Thompson and | 15 | | others to study law; he attended Loyola University Chicago and | 16 | | graduated with a law degree in 1986; he started his law career | 17 | | with the Chicago firm of Lincoln, Isham and Beale; in 1988, he | 18 | | joined the law firm of Mayer Brown after receiving a call from | 19 | | Ty Fahner, a former colleague of the Thompson administration; | 20 | | and | 21 | | WHEREAS, John Janicik worked in the early years of casino |

| 1 | | gaming boats and represented operators and advised clients on | 2 | | regulatory, financing, and banking issues; and | 3 | | WHEREAS, John Janicik was a partner and attorney at Mayer | 4 | | Brown for 30 years; he led the government and global trade | 5 | | practice for Mayer Brown for 12 years and set the | 6 | | industry-leading practice in regulatory, government relations, | 7 | | and public law matters; recently, he worked with Chicago Mayor | 8 | | Lori Lightfoot and was highly respected in his field; and | 9 | | WHEREAS, John Janicik also provided pro bono counsel to | 10 | | many groups, including the Illinois Medical District (IMD) | 11 | | Guest House and the Catholic Diocese of Joliet; he served as | 12 | | both pro bono attorney and chairman of the board of IMD Guest | 13 | | House; he was equally active at the Catholic Diocese of Joliet, | 14 | | serving on or chairing multiple committees; additionally, he | 15 | | was active with the Better Business Bureau and the Notre Dame | 16 | | Parish; and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, John Janicik was known for his quick wit, | 18 | | generosity, wise advice, and devotion to his religion; he will | 19 | | be remembered for his dedication to integrity and good | 20 | | government practices; he could be found on the golf course, | 21 | | watching Cardinals baseball, working out, or spending time with | 22 | | his wife and children; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, John Janicik is survived by his wife of 36 years, | 2 | | Candie Janicik; his siblings, Thomas Janicik, Kathleen (Steve) | 3 | | Ryan, and James (Mary Jo) Janicik; his children, Mark (Sarah) | 4 | | Janicik, Sarah (Dave) Grady, and Rachel (Connor) Powers; and | 5 | | his granddaughter, Ella Janicik; therefore, be it
| 6 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | 7 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing | 8 | | John A. Janicik and extend our sincere condolences to his | 9 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 10 | | further
